Black Onyx

What it actually is

Onyx is the one stone we set that does not play with light internally at all. It is completely opaque, so everything happens on the surface: the polish is the stone. A well-finished onyx works like a small black mirror and reflects whatever is around it.

How it looks in different light

Consistent in every light, which is exactly the point. It reads graphic against silver in daylight and disappears into an outfit at night.

Natural characteristics

Very little visible variation, which makes it the most predictable stone in the collection. Almost all black onyx on the market is dyed chalcedony; the treatment is standard, permanent and disclosed per piece.

Durability and care

Warm soapy water and a soft cloth. The polish is what you are protecting, so keep it away from abrasives and from harder stones in storage.

Traditional associations

In crystal traditions Black Onyx is most often connected with protection, grounding and strength. In Vedic astrology the stone is associated with Shani, Saturn.

Wearing Black Onyx
