Citrine

What it actually is

Citrine is quartz in the yellow-to-orange range, coloured by traces of iron. Faceted, it throws a warm light back at you; as a cabochon it holds the colour more softly and reads closer to honey.

How it looks in different light

Warm light amplifies citrine and makes it read almost gold. Cool daylight brings out the lemon end of the range. It is one of the few stones that looks good against both silver and skin in artificial light, which is why it works for evening.

Natural characteristics

Colour runs from pale lemon to deep madeira orange. A great deal of commercial citrine is heat-treated amethyst; the treatment is stable and permanent, and we disclose it per piece.

Durability and care

Durable for daily wear. Warm soapy water. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and sudden heat, which can affect the colour.

Traditional associations

In crystal traditions Citrine is most often connected with abundance and confidence. In Vedic astrology the stone is associated with Guru, Jupiter.

Wearing Citrine

We set Citrine in the Petal Drop. Against rhodium-finished silver it reads cool and recessive, which is the point: the metal holds the stone and gets out of the way.
